Academic Programs is responsible for ensuring that the appropriate nonimmigrant status is attained for temporary international faculty and research scholars not arriving on an H1-B visa. All questions concerning H1-B faculty and staff and the employment of a foreign national who requires H1-B work authorization should be directed to the Office of Human Resources.
In collaboration with the International Student Services office, we will assist departments and internationals with J-1 visa advising. We are responsible for the administration and oversight of UCM's J-1 Visa Exchange Visitor Program for scholars, professors, researchers, and student interns. The International Student Services office acts as the liaison between our visitors and the U.S. government agencies that have jurisdiction over their stay in the U.S.

Travel Arrangements/ U.S. Policy Considerations:
Health Insurance Requirements: J-1 scholars and their J-2 dependents must have health insurance that meets federal requirements throughout their time in the U.S.
Contact the University Health Center (uhc@ucmo.edu) and International Student Services (isss@ucmo.edu) for Health insurance options for yourself and your dependents that may be purchased on arrival. You may also purchase your own health insurance once you receive your DS-2019 and visa and provide proof of insurance to meet J-1 insurance requirements.
Again, please contact the University Health Center (uhc@ucmo.edu) and International Student Services (isss@ucmo.edu) for help with determining whether your health insurance will be equivalent to a health insurance waiver option for UCM's Visiting Scholars.
Upon Arrival to the U.S. and UCM:
Scholars must check in at Ward Edwards 1800 to inform the Coordinator of Exchange and Sponsored Programs (intlsponsored@ucmo.edu) of their arrival on campus. The Coordinator will then validate the SEVIS record to indicate that the exchange visitor has entered the U.S., reported to the sponsor, and is participating in the planned program.
