Mules Basketball set for regional final

NCAA Basketball LogoMules basketball goes after its third regional title in the last four years Tuesday night, and this time they hope to celebrate on the road.

The Mules will battle host and top-seed Midwestern State in the NCAA-II South-Central Regional title game Tuesday at 7 p.m., in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Baseball wraps series at ESU

Chance Tuttle in actionMules baseball split a doubleheader Monday with Emporia State, and wrapped up a key early season four-game MIAA series by winning three of the games.

In the opener Monday, the Mules suffered their first loss in conference action, dropping a 7-2 decision. UCM scored three runs in the top of the first inning in game two, and went on to post an 8-2 victory.

Chance Tuttle and Tyler Ruch collected four hits each to lead the offense, while Ryan Allen picked up the win in game two with six solid innings as the starter.

The Mules moved up one spot to fourth in the latest NCAA-II Poll released on Monday, and are now 11-1 in conference play, and 16-2 overall.


One national champion at D-II Indoor

NCAA Track & Field LogoUCM track & field had a national championship performance Saturday at the 2010 NCAA-II Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Darius Walker captured the Heptathlon to highlight the two-day event for UCM, as the Mules finished 5th overall and had nine All-Americans, while the Jennies had three All-Americans to finish 12th.

In addition to Walker's national championship, there were a pair of runner-up finishes for UCM on Saturday. Lindsay Lettow came up short in her bid for the Pentathlon championship, with the men's quartet of Darius Walker, Anthony Cooper, Brent Vogel , & Kai Roper just behind the winner in the 1600 Meter Relay .

Mules Wrestling has two All-Americans

NCAA Wrestling LogoMules wrestling took two competitors to the NCAA-II National Championships in Omaha, Neb., and both earned All-Amercan honors.

Cory Bloodgood finished fifth at 141 pounds, while Matt Bailes finished seventh at 174 pounds.

Bloodgood also received NCAA's elite 88 award for the athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the national event.


Bowling finish sixth in Nashville

The Jennies entered the competition ranked sixth in the latest Adobe Reader IconNTCA Poll, and will find out their NCAA post-season fate on March 24th, when teams are selected for the national championship event.


Jennies Basketball falls at Regional

NCAA Basketball LogoJennies basketball fell 72-61 to MIAA foe Washburn on Friday in an opening round game of the Women's NCAA D-II South-Central Regional in Canyon, Texas.

Kara Fleming led UCM with 15 points, while three other players (Becca Roberts, Danielle Shows, and Meghan Waggoner) scored 11 each.

The Jennies, who were making their first appearance in NCAA-II post-season since 2006, will end the season 19-12.


Softball in action Tuesday

Jennies have won six straight after opening the season with six consecutive losses, and will take that 6-6 mark into the games on Tuesday.
