Jenna Schmidt is the Division II Indoor Field Scholar Athlete of the Year for 2009. Schmidt, a sophomore from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, maintained a 3.84 cumulative grade point average in Sociology. She was the high jump national champion indoors clearing 5'-9.75" leading the Jennies to a third place finish in the team standings. Schmidt also won the high jump title at the MIAA outdoor championships and finished fourth overall in the triple jump at the conference meet.
In addition to the Scholar Athletes of the Year, the USTFCCCA also announced the NCAA D-II All-Academic Track and Field Team. The Jennies have five student-athletes on the women's squad (Lindsay Lettow, Kayla Muyskens, Brittanie Roldan, Jenna Schmidt, and Angela Selby, while the Mules had four student-athletes named to the men's team (Shawn Boss, Kevin Denny, Jaban Moore, and Brent Vogal).
Drew Frizzell, an NCAA-II national champion in two events this past season, competed Saturday, June 27th, at the 2009 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Frizzell finished 18th in the Hammer Throw, an event he captured at the NCAA-II Outdoor Championships in San Angelo, Texas.
Former UCM standout Dan Raithel also took part in the Hammer, while another former All-American, Kristin Anderson competed in the finals of the 3000 Meter Steeplechase.

Brittanie Roldan (far right) was a finalist for the Ken B. Jones Award.
Roldan, who was recently named a co-recipient of the "Peggy Martin Award"as one of the outstanding Female senior student-athletes at UCM, was one of three finalists for the top female student-athlete in the MIAA, with the award going to Venessa Lee from Pittsburg State. More Info »

UCM closed out the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in San Angelo, Texas, on Saturday. The All-American count totaled 17 individuals in 10 different events, highlighted by Drew Frizzell (pictured above) with a trio of All-American performances, including a national title in the men's Hammer Throw on Thursday.
The Mules finished fifth in the men's competition, placing in seven events and scoring 30 points. The Jennies scored in three events, scoring 19 points and finishing 13th. Jenna Schmidt was the top individual place-winner for the Jennies with a runner-up finish in the women's High Jump.

The Mules captured their fourth consecutive men's title, and eighth in the past nine years, as the 2009 MIAA Outdoor Championships ended last Sunday in Joplin, Missouri. The Jennies finished third, ending their string of four consecutive women's championships.

2009 OUTDOOR MULE RELAYS

The Mules recorded eight, first-place finishes, and had a pair of automatic NCAA-II qualifying marks (Jaban Moore-Shot Put & Drew Frizzell-Hammer Throw) and six provisional qualifying marks.
The Jennies turned in seven, first-place finishes, with a pair of provisional NCAA-II qualifying marks.

UCM had three individual national champions, a pair of runner-up finishes, and earned All-American honors in every event they had student-athletes entered at the NCAA-II Indoor Championships.
As a team, the Jennies place third in the Women's division, their highest indoor finish in their history, while the Mules were sixth in the Men's division.

Drew Frizzell (pictured above) picked up the Mules first national champion in track & field this season, winning the Men's 35-Pound Weight Throw on Friday with a new school record of 68' 7".
Kayla Muyskens and Brittanie Roldan also picked up All-American honors for UCM on Saturday second place finishes in the Women's Shot Put and Women's Triple Jump respectively, while Lindsay Lettow also earned All-American honors by finishing fourth in the Pentathlon.
Also on Saturday, Darius Walker and Alex Lohman earned All-American honors in the Heptathlon, with Walker finishing fourth and Lohman fifth.
Frizzell and Jaban Moore also earned All-American honors Saturday in the Men's Shot Put, with Frizzell finishing third and Moore in fourth.
The Men's 4 x 400 Meter Relay Team (Darius Walker, Anthony Cooper, Britt Johnson, and Kai Roper) finished sixth to earn All-American.
Eric Moore earned All-American placement Friday by finishing sixth in the Men's Long Jump (23' 8.75")

Mules take the victory lap after claiming their second consecutive Indoor Team Title
UCM finished with eight first-place performances overall, and the Mules successfully defended their team title, at the MIAA Indoor Championships that concluded Sunday at the Multipurpose Building.
The Mules finished with 139.3 points to outdistance the men's field, and were led by Drew Frizzell, who won a pair of individual events (Shot Put and the Weight Throw). Frizzell's performance in the Weight Throw was a new MIAA record of 65'-11.5". Brett Carter won the 5000 Meter Run and the 4 x 400 Meter Relay team of Darius Walker, Anthony Cooper, Britt Johnson, and Kai Roper finished first.
The Jennies also had four first-place performances, but placed third overall with 77.5 points, trailing champion Nebraska-Omaha (94) and runner-up Missouri Southern (92.5). Conference champions for the Jennies included Anne Carlson in the Pentathlon, Brittanie Roldan in the Triple Jump, Jenna Schmidt in the High Jump, and Kayla Muyskens in the Shot Put.
