Unique learning opportunities in engineering and technology
To earn your Engineering and Technology Teaching degree at the University of Central
Missouri, you’ll practice teaching both on and off campus. In our Active Learning
Classroom, you’ll use state-of-the-art equipment and technology that will prepare
you to teach today’s students before beginning your practicum experience. Starting
your sophomore year, you’ll also apply your skills in the field, observing a high
school CTE teacher and then leading instruction. In fact, you’ll have extensive field
experience prior to student teaching in your final semester.
Join an engineering and technology teachers association
When you join an engineering and technology teachers association, you’ll have opportunities
to network, learn and have fun with future engineering technology teachers. Among
your options are:
- Technology Education Collegiate Association (TECA)
- International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA)
- Missouri Association for Career and Technical Education (MoACTE)
- Technology Education Association of Missouri (TEAM)
Students completing Education degrees in Engineering Technology at UCM are also encouraged
to get involved with local Technology Student Association chapters. This will help
you understand the organization, so you can manage a future TSA or SkillsUSA chapter.

“As an ETTE graduate, you will have your choice of locations and teaching jobs to
apply for, whether that be for a traditional high school shop, automotive shop, electronics
lab or architecture/ engineering lab. I got hired by my favored district before receiving
my college degree or teaching certificate. This can only be due to my choice in the
ETTE program.”
Meet Our Faculty

Certification
Upon completion of student teaching, you will apply for DESE certification within
the area of Engineering and Technology Teacher Education (Technology Education). This
certification will allow you to teach the content learned through this degree in the
9-12 grade level in any district in Missouri. In addition, if you choose to student
teach in a pre-engineering, nationally-accredited program, you may also be certified
to teach in a middle or secondary education pre-engineering program as well.
