AT 5620 Responding to Emergencies (3) Management of accident, injury, and illness
situations for the Athletic Trainer. Concepts of patient centered care involving referral,
legal/ethical considerations and legal aspects will be discussed. Co-requisite: AT

AT 5630 Principles of Athletic Training (3) Provide the athletic training student
with the foundational knowledge of the Athletic Training profession. Discuss prevention,
recognition, mechanism and management of injuries and general medical conditions..

AT 5640 Orthopedic Assessment: Lower Extremity (3) (3: 2 Lecture, 1 Lab) Common types
of orthopedic dysfunctions in the lower extremity will be discussed. Emphasis will
be placed upon mechanism of injury, pathology, recognition/evaluation techniques,
protocols, and prevention in patient centered care. Pre-requisites: AT 5610, AT 5620,
and AT 5630. Co- requisites: AT 5650 and AT 5660. FA.
AT 5650 Clinical Athletic Training Practicum I (3) The evaluation of orthopedic conditions
occurring to the lower extremity. Clinical assignment to Clinical Preceptors will
occur during the semester to assess clinical learning/implementation. Pre-requisites:
AT 5610, AT 5620, and AT 5630. Co-requisite: AT 5640 and AT 5660. Additional fee is
associated with this course. FA.
AT 5660 Therapeutic Modalities (3) (3: 2 Lecture, 1 Lab). Principles related to the
physiological effects, treatment parameters, intended outcomes utilizing Evidence
Based Medicine in the practical application of the various modalities discussed. Pre-requisites:
AT 5610, AT 5620, and AT 5630. Co-requisites: AT 5640 and AT 5650. FA.
AT 5670 Orthopedic Assessment: Upper Extremity (3) (3: 2 Lecture, 1 Lab). Common types
of orthopedic dysfunctions in the upper extremity will be discussed. Emphasis will
be placed upon mechanism of injury, pathology, recognition/evaluation techniques,

AT 5690 Therapeutic Rehabilitation (3) Building upon the foundation from AT 5610,
this course will bridge theory into clinical application of rehabilitation concepts
across the entire spectrum of a patient care. Pre-requisites: AT 5610, AT 5620, AT
5630, AT 5640, AT 5650, and AT 5660. Co-requisites: AT 5670, and AT 5680. SP.
AT 6610 Medical Aspects and Interventions in Athletic Training (4) The course provides an overview of concepts related to the general medical evaluation,
conditions, and treatments commonly seen in a diverse and active population. Prerequisite(s): AT 5610, AT 5620, AT 5630, AT 5640, AT 5650, AT 5660, AT 5670, AT 5680, AT 5690 and admission to the MSAT program. Corequisite(s): AT 6620. An additional fee is associated with this course.
AT 6620 Clinical Athletic Training Practicum III (3) The theoretical and clinical
application of diagnostic instrumentations along with the interpretations and findings
to assist in medical diagnosis and treatment. Clinical assignment to Clinical Preceptors
will occur during the semester to assess clinical learning/implementation. Additional
course fees apply. Pre-requisites: AT 5610, AT 5620, AT 5630, AT 5640, AT 5650, AT
5660, AT 5670, AT 5680, and AT 5690. Co-requisite: AT 6610. SU.
AT 6630 Management and Professionalism in Athletic Training (3) Discussions in legal/ethical
practice, resource management, professional responsibility, inter-professional relationships
and medical facility management. Pre-requisites: AT 5610, AT 5620, AT 5630, AT 5640,
AT 5650, AT 5660, AT 5670, AT 5680, AT 5690, AT 6610, and AT 6620. Co- requisite:
AT 6640 and PE 5900. FA.
AT 6640 Clinical Athletic Training Practicum IV (3) Emphasis will be placed upon the
application of athletic training skills in emergency care, orthopedic appliances,
and therapeutic intervention as directed by orthopedic assessment findings in the
clinical setting. Clinical assignment to Clinical Preceptors will occur during the
semester to assess clinical learning/implementation. Additional fee is associated
with this course. Pre-requisites: AT 5610, AT 5620, AT 5630, AT 5640, AT 5650, AT
5660, AT 5670, AT 5680, AT 5690, AT 6610, and AT 6620. Co-requisite: AT 6630 and PE

AT 6650 Seminar in Athletic Training (3) The course will prepare students for their national board exam, state licensing requirements,
and entry level professional practice. Prerequisite(s): AT 5610, AT 5620, AT 5630, AT 5640, AT 5650, AT 5660, AT 5670, AT 5680, AT 5690, AT 6610, AT 6620, AT 6630, AT 6640 and admission to the MSAT program. Corequisite(s): AT 6660. An additional fee is associated with this course.
AT 6660 Internship in Athletic Training (6) The course will provide students the opportunity for a clinical immersive experiences
and prepare them for the day to day tasks of an athletic trainer. Prerequisite(s): AT 5610, AT 5620, AT 5630, AT 5640, AT 5650, AT 5660, AT 5670, AT 5680, AT 5690, AT 6610, AT 6620, AT 6630, AT 6640 and admission to the MSAT program. The VanDam Scholarship has awarded 40 scholarships valued over $40,000 since 2011!
2) The MSAT Admissions Scholarship:
The first five admitted student to the ATP are eligible to apply for the program’s
admission scholarship. The scholarship is valued at $300 and each student must individually
apply for this scholarship if they so choose to seek this funding.
