What you will study
Fitness and wellness have an immensely positive impact on almost every aspect of daily
living. UCM’s Fitness/Wellness minor gives you the tools and techniques to help others
live happy, healthy lives through building and developing effective exercise and workout
programs.
Throughout your undergraduate coursework, you’ll be introduced to foundations in human
movement and mechanics, as well as the basics of determining readiness for behavior
change related to fitness and wellness.
You’ll take undergraduate courses such as:
- Assessment and Evaluation of Fitness/Wellness: Learn how to perform and implement comprehensive fitness assessments and evaluate
fitness levels.
- Biomechanics: Gain a greater understanding of lab techniques for human performance and clinical
assessments.
- Personal Training: Learn how to evaluate the points of performance for movement patterns in exercise
and how to give concise, expert cues for improving movement quality.

UCM students who pursue our Fitness/Wellness minor supplement a bachelor’s degree
program with hands-on experience and preparation.
- Prepare for industry recognized certifications: The Fitness/Wellness minor helps you build the foundational knowledge needed to pass
a variety of professional certifications, including the Certified Personal Trainer
(CPT) exam through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) or National Strength
and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
- Get involved beyond the classroom: UCM offers more than 200 student organizations. Many Fitness/Wellness minors get involved
in groups such as Kinesiology Club, Student Athletics Activities Club, Fellowship
of Christian Athletes, or the Athletic Training Student Association. These groups
