What you will study
The Construction Management minor at UCM will provide you with solid business, construction

As a UCM student earning a minor in Construction Management, you’ll have access to
modern labs and hands-on learning opportunities to give you real-world experience.
You’ll learn from expert faculty with experience in the field who will support and
guide you to ensure you’re fully prepared for a career in the construction industry:
- Skill-building labs: As part of your coursework, you’ll engage in lab activities that develop skills and
provide experience that you’ll need on the job, such as building a steel structure
and scheduling a project using software and hand work.
- Student competitions: Participate in the Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Student Management Competition.
Work together with your team to prepare complete estimates, schedules, cash flow projections,
cost analysis, site layouts, methodology plans and safety plans based on real-life
plans and specifications.
- Networking opportunities: Connect with peers in the Student Organization of Construction Managers (SOCM), a
student-run group that focuses on networking, philanthropy and professional development.
Engage in community projects such as maintaining the walking trail bridge at Lion’s
Lake and building shade pavilions for dog parks, and attend industry events such as
the Building Industry Expo.
