Statistics Minor

Do you have a mathematical mind and a knack for numbers? Even if you’re not a Mathematics major, the University of Central Missouri’s Statistics minor is a great complement to virtually any of our undergraduate programs. 

Our Statistics minor program will help you develop highly transferable skills and knowledge in areas including quantitative research, data analytics, statistical theory and applied statistical methods. These hard skills benefit professionals across today’s major industries, including energy, economics, transportation, biotechnology and software development. While the Statistics minor is not available to students in the Actuarial Science and Statistics major, our undergraduate students majoring in Business, Economics, Physical Science, Psychological Science, Biology and the Social Sciences benefit greatly from the minor in Statistics.

UCM understands that hands-on learning is the best way to develop your skills in statistics. It’s also important to build your professional networking skills before you enter the competitive job market. UCM prides itself on offering students who minor in Statistics real-world opportunities to refine their quantitative research and data analytics skills while honing their professional skills:

  • Training and networking: UCM Statistics students participate in events hosted by the Kansas-Western Missouri Chapter of the American Statistical Association. Annual chapter meetings include career days and hands-on training in statistical methods and the latest software.
  • UCM Statistics Club: This student club welcomes Statistics majors and minors in addition to UCM students who are simply interested in the discipline. The club invites statistics experts and alumni to give presentations on campus and provides students with volunteer opportunities for hands-on learning outside the classroom.
  • Statistics Honor Society: Academically qualifying students are invited to join the honor society, Mu Sigma Rho, to access valuable networking opportunities, including in-person meetings with statistics experts and potential employers.
