Message from the Chair Dr Kidwaro

Welcome to the Agriculture Program in the Department of Biology and Agriculture. The faculty congratulates you for choosing to pursue a degree in agriculture. We believe that the Agriculture Program under the guidance of our faculty can provide you with a broad background in the agricultural field of your choice. Our goal is to help you develop the tools you will need to pursue a successful career in agriculture. The faculty is ready to facilitate your learning not only within the technical areas of agriculture, but also in the more general skills necessary to achieve success in today’s competitive world. We will provide opportunities for you to develop skills in communicating, solving problems, working with others, and understanding your own values. As you begin your studies in the Agriculture Program, please reflect on the question: Why am I in college? Two possible reasons might be to get an education and/or to earn a diploma. Completing a specific sequence of courses will yield a diploma; a piece of paper to hang on the wall. Obtaining an education is a much broader undertaking involving the development of skills and the ability to use these skills as you meet new challenges in your career. Although the faculty are here to help and guide you, whether you leave college with just a diploma or with a diploma and an education, will depend largely on how excited you are about learning. I do not believe that obtaining a quality education is a spectator sport. How much you gain from your time at Central will depend on how much you participate in your own education. We are pleased you’ve made Central your university of choice. You will find our curriculum and faculty can be of great help to you in preparing for your future. Our faculty are ready and willing to work with you. Please get to know them and your fellow students. Ask questions, be inquisitive, and expand your horizon; that is what the college experience is about. Welcome to the Agriculture program.
