You must register through the Missouri Automated Criminal History System, MACHS, for the fingerprint-based background check. The background check is conducted by both the Missouri Highway Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
A four-digit registration code is required to ensure the results of your background check are returned to the correct organization for processing.
After registering, you must visit one of the IDEMIA office locations for fingerprinting. A fingerprint location map is available on the MACHS website.
How to determine which 4-digit registration code to use:
Instructions for students enrolled in UCM classes requiring a background check for observing in public school classrooms.
Instructions for Student Teaching, Initial Teacher Certification and Substitute Certificate.
You will need to pay a fee for the fingerprinting process at the time of registration. The cost may vary.
Results of your fingerprints are usually received in approximately 2-4 business days if not sooner. If you used 6699 as the registration code, the results will be sent to Clinical Services and Certification staff. If you used 2300 or 2301 as the registration code, the results will appear under the Fingerprint Information heading on your DESE Educator Profile.
The fingerprint/background check is valid for one year.
