Prior to joining the University of Central Missouri (UCM), Terrell Brown taught high school social studies for 11 years and middle school social studies for two years and was named a building teacher of the year. He earned his AA from Los Angeles City College, BA from UCLA, MEd from Langston University, and PhD from the University of Oklahoma Norman Campus. He taught Advanced Placement US History and is currently an AP US History Reader. Dr. Brown currently teaches courses that focus on Elementary Concepts in Social Studies, Diversity and Social Justice, Advanced Foundations of Education, and Differentiation in K-12 Environments. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the Association of Teacher Educators as an At-Large member, is a commissioner for the ATE Commission on Teacher Education Standards, the Co-Chair 2026 ATE Annual Conference, and Chair of UCM’s College of Education DEI Committee. Dr. Brown is also a member of the Association of Teacher Educators, National Council for the Social Studies, and Missouri Council for the Social Studies. His research interests include antiracist research on K-12 education and teacher preparation, policy making, pedagogy, curriculum, and practices and the impact of formative assessment on K-12 learning.
