Ms. Mittelhauser is from Texas but spent a significant portion of her childhood in Missouri. She received her B.S. in Botany at Texas State University in 1999 and stayed to earn a Master’s degree in Biology (emphasizing Plant Ecology) in 2002. Her Master’s thesis project involved restoring a parcel of Blackland Prairie in central Texas using an herbicide called imazapic (trade name PlateauÒ). She is currently working on a Ph.D. through the University of North Texas; her dissertation project will examine macroinvertebrate assemblages in farm ponds of the Osage Plains that are exposed to different grazing regimes.
