Dr. Kurt Dean has been a faculty member since Fall of 1998. He teaches Ornithology, Principles of Biology, Conservation Biology, Intro. to Environmental Science, and Animal Ecology, and team-teaches Evolution.
His research projects include: the ecology and energetics of neotropical woodland migrant Passerines at riparian stopover sites in the northern Great Plains; and the ecology and breeding biology of an extra-limital population of Virginia's Warblers (Vermivora virginiae) in the southwestern Black Hills of South Dakota.
Dr. Dean was raised in northeast Nebraska and has lived on the northern Great Plains most of his life. He earned a B.S. degree from Briar Cliff College, Sioux City, Iowa in 1981 and earned his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of South Dakota in 1985 and 1999, respectively.
