Dr. Popova earned a M.S. in chemistry and school chemistry teaching from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria in 1997. During her graduate tenure she completed independent research under Prof. L. Boyanova on introduction of problems with drug addiction to middle and high school students. Dr. Popova went on to earn a Ph.D. in chemistry from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Sofia, Bulgaria in 2008. Her research was completed in the laboratory of Prof. S. Rakovsky and focused on degradation of alcohols, furanes, and pesticides in aqueous media with ozonation. Dr. Popova has professional experience as a teacher in high school and research scientist at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Institute of Catalysis. Dr. Popova began her career at UCM in the fall of 2023.
