Dr. Eva Aspegren arrived at Central in 1976 with a wealth of knowledge accumulated while serving in a variety of international positions, including five years of service as a field officer for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in Fiji and Kenya. She also taught home economics in Sweden for five years.
Aspegren has retired from Central as professor emeritus of human environmental sciences after 20 years of service to the university as an assistant and associate professor.
Aspegren was educated as a home economics teaching in Sweden. She came to the United States to earn a master’s degree and a doctorate in home economics education at Iowa State University.
While at Central, Aspegren was an alternate member of the Faculty Senate and was a member of the Senate’s Arbitration Pool, Committee on Committees, International Affairs, University 1000 and Cultural and Artistic Activities committees. She also served on the university’s Assessment Committee, was involved in Phi Delta Kappa and participated on various departmental committees.
Her professional memberships have included the International Federation of Home Economics, American Association of Family and Consumer Science, Missouri Association of Family and Consumer Science, American Vocational Association, Missouri Vocational Association, National Association of Teacher Educators of Vocational Home Economics, American Association of Housing Educators, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the Missouri State Teachers Association.
She plans to retire in Sweden, where she can spend more time with her mother.
