A warm smile, friendly approach and professionalism were Dr. Jerry Elliott’s trademarks during his years of service to Central.
Dr. Elliott officially retires this month as manager emeritus of revenue, concluding a career that began 32 years ago. He joined the university in 1970 as assistant director of financial aid after several years of public school experience. He earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Central in 1961, then went on to serve as an elementary physical education teacher in Raytown and serve as a junior high basketball coach in Knob Noster and Warrensburg. He also coached Warrensburg High School basketball, tennis and football, in addition to teaching physical education and drivers education.
Dr. Elliott had faculty status upon his arrival at the institution and initially held the rank of instructor. He completed his master’s degree in education from Central in 1970, and his education specialist degree in 1973. Thereafter, he was promoted to assistant director of financial aid with the rank of assistant professor. In 1981, he became business manager for revenue and assistant professor of administration, supervision and higher education. He earned his doctorate in education from the University of Missouri-Columbia the previous year.
