For more than 12 years, Dr. Judy Vickrey played a vital role in helping to ensure Central was fiscally sound. She has retired as vice president emerita of finance and administration.
After serving for four years as associate commissioner for finance for the Missouri Coordinating Board for Higher Education, Dr. Vickrey came to campus in March 1990 as interim vice president for finance and administration. She was named to that post on a permanent basis in 1992. In that capacity, she supervised six finance and administrative functions, including accounting, physical plan, human resources, public safety, facilities, and printing services, and was a member of the president’s cabinet. Because of her strong leadership skills, she was named acting president from August to December 1993, when former President Ed Elliot took a five-month leave of absence.
Throughout her career at Central, Dr. Vickrey was instrumental in supervising the preparation of appropriation requests for submission to the Missouri governor and General Assembly. Her work in this area and the contacts she made through experiences at CBHE made her a prime candidate for the position of legislative liaison. She served at that post from January to June 2003.
Dr. Vickrey was active in organizations such as Phi Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi Rotary International and the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce. Her education includes a doctorate and master’s degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a bachelor’s degree from Southwest Missouri State University, Springfield.
