Although her name never appeared on the university payroll, Sandra Elliott’s many acts of volunteerism and dedication to the university during the past 14 years contributed greatly to the institution’s success and good reputation. She is the first presidential spouse to be honored as first lady emeritus.
As the wife of President Ed Elliott, she provided a vital source of support for her husband in the performance of his duties, but also took on many responsibilities and challenges of her own. High on Mrs. Elliott’s list of accomplishments is the establishment and funding for the University Women Scholarship, which this year will provide four $500 awards.
Her role as a resident at Selmo Park led to many opportunities to educate and inform students about university history while also entertaining special campus guests. She annually hosted University 1000 class tours for freshmen, and organized special events there for faculty, community members, alumni, Foundation Board members, and a host of national and international dignitaries.
Mrs. Elliott’s volunteerism extended into the community with involvement in Warrensburg Main Street Inc., local Fall Festival activities, fund raising for Survival Adult Abuse Center, membership in Community Leaders for Alcohol and Substance Abuse Prevention and Secunda Study Club, just to name a few.
A former high school business teacher and mother of three sons, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Central.
