Cesar Chavez Scholarship

 

The Cesar Chavez Scholarship is available through the University of Central Missouri for a graduating high school senior or a college transfer student from the Kansas City metropolitan area (see below for eligible counties) planning to attend the University of Central Missouri.

Value: $4,000 per year for a graduating high school senior (renewable 4 years total) or $4,000 per year for a college transfer student (renewable for 3 years total)

Eligibility: To be considered, a student must:

  • Be a graduating senior of a high school or a transfer student who graduated from a high school located in the Kansas City metropolitan area (eligible Kansas City, Missouri counties include: Cass, Clay, Jackson, Johnson and Platte; eligible Kansas City, Kansas counties include: Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte);
  • Be accepted to the University of Central Missouri;
  • Be a U.S. citizen or hold legal immigration status;
  • Be involved within, influenced by, or supported by the Hispanic Community of Greater Kansas City;
  • Have a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale following the seventh semester of high school or a 2.0 cumulative college GPA; 
  • Demonstrate financial need as defined by the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid);
  • File the FAFSA by the April 1 deadline.

Renewability: The Cesar Chavez Scholarship may be received for a maximum of eight (8) semesters for a graduating high school senior or six (6) semesters for a college transfer student for undergraduate study at UCM provided the recipient:

  • Maintains status as a full-time UCM undergraduate student (12 or more undergraduate credit hours) each semester, and
  • Achieves a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 upon completion of each semester, and
  • Must be an active participant in a registered UCM student organization at the time of renewal, and
  • Must participate in UCM's Success Coaching/Mentoring Program administered by Success Advising (for more information about the Mentoring Program, contact the Success Advising Center, at 660-543-4721 or success@ucmo.edu).
