UCM Board of Governors Approves Key Contracts, Schedules and Emeritus Status at August Meeting

The University of Central Missouri (UCM) Board of Governors met on Aug. 22, 2024, at the Warrensburg campus for committee and plenary sessions. Presided over by newly appointed Board President John Collier, the meeting included approvals of key contracts, emeritus status for several retired faculty and staff members, and the 2025 meeting schedule.

 

During the meeting, the board approved the renewal of a custom network healthcare plan with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City. The renewed plan includes a 4% increase in health insurance premiums and a reduction in copays for behavioral health service, with no other changes to existing coverages.

 

The board also approved the renewal of the contract for vision benefit coverage with Vision Service Plan, UCM’s current provider. The vision coverage contract, effective from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2025, includes three one-year renewal options and rates will remain the same. UCM had previously issued a request for proposals to all interested providers.

 

UCM staff presented reports to the board on enrollment, legislative affairs, intercollegiate athletics and overall university updates.

Additionally, the board approved the proposed meeting schedule for the 2025 calendar year, continuing its tradition of setting regular meeting dates each fall. The approved meeting dates for 2025 are:

• Jan. 23-24, 2025
• March 27-28, 2025
• April 24-25, 2025
• June 12-13, 2025
• Aug. 21-22, 2025
• Oct. 23-24, 2025
• Dec. 11-12, 2025

Outgoing Board President Ken Weymuth was recognized for his leadership during his two one-year terms. Weymuth was appointed to the University of Central Missouri Board of Governors by Missouri Gov. Mike Parson in 2020.

 

Emeritus status was awarded to several retired faculty and staff members in recognition of their service to the university:

• Mr. Ken Schueller (April 1, 1999 – July 31, 2024), Director, Success Advising Center.
• Ms. Cathy McGraw Culp (Jan. 13, 2003 – Aug. 31, 2024), Assistant Instructor.
• Ms. Melanie Gross (March 4, 1996 – Aug. 31, 2024), Director, Academic Affairs Operations.
• Dr. S. Mark Goodwin (Aug. 16, 2007 – Aug. 31, 2024), Associate Professor.
• Dr. Robert Hallis (April 1, 1999 – Aug. 31, 2024), Library Professor.
• Dr. Tricia Hansen-Horn (Aug. 23, 1999 – Aug. 31, 2024), Professor.
• Mr. Kip Janvrin (Jan. 1, 1997 – Aug. 31, 2024), Coach.
• Dr. Carlotta Kimble (Aug. 14, 2008 – Aug. 31, 2024), Associate Professor.
