The University of Central Missouri Athletics "Literacy Team" has been named one of 25 finalists for the 2024 NCAA Division II Award of Excellence, the NCAA announced Friday, Jan. 5. The Award of Excellence honors initiatives during the past year that exemplify the Division II philosophy, community engagement and student-athlete leadership. UCM was one of eight finalists to earn an at-large selection for submitting a strong nomination that was not chosen as the finalist for their conference.

January 04, 2024Combining their deep appreciation for the University of Central Missouri with their desire to support students, a Leawood, Kansas, couple has created an endowed scholarship for students who participated in Operation Breakthrough’s Ignition Lab, powered by Travis Kelce’s Eighty-Seven and Running Foundation. The first Homer and Becky Kay “I Matter” Scholarship was awarded in fall 2023 to a young Kansas City resident pursuing his degree in Music Technology at UCM.

December 07, 2023Thousands of visitors will be welcomed to Warrensburg Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8-9 as the University of Central Missouri hosts 2023 Fall Commencement exercises in the Multipurpose Building. The celebration brings families, friends and students together for four ceremonies honoring more than 1,400 individuals who have met undergraduate and graduate degree requirements and a number of late and early walkers who are eligible to participate. Anyone who cannot attend but would like to view the ceremonies can do so virtually by clicking on the UCM Commencement Livestream page.
December 07, 2023Placing a high value on preparing students to work in a global environment, a delegation of University of Central Missouri representatives traveled to China this fall to continue building upon UCM’s cooperative educational relationship with Hengshui University. Their visit took place at the same time a small number of HSU students are experiencing campus life in Warrensburg, Missouri, and as the university explores a possible visit from HSU education leaders in spring 2024.

By hosting golf tournaments for seven consecutive years, the committee has raised $303,761 to help fund student scholarships and other opportunities to aid and advance UCM’s Bachelor of Science in Construction Management program.

The 2022-2023 report shows a move upward from the sixth spot on the list a year ago, continuing to place UCM in the top 10 among universities listed within the same institutional type. UCM ranked the highest among Missouri public and private colleges and universities that offer both baccalaureate and master’s degrees.

November 17, 2023Demonstrating the power of philanthropic support, the University of Central Missouri will celebrate Giving Tuesday on Nov. 28 with the rededication of the James C. Kirkpatrick Library (JCKL) at the facility’s first-floor Read and Relax area. The public is invited to attend the ceremony at noon to hear remarks by university leaders and check out state-of-the-art renovations that include modernized study and collaborative learning spaces, new study nooks, a wellness room, and soft furnishings made possible by the Koch Family Trust.
November 16, 2023Making the safety of students, employees and campus visitors a priority, the University of Central Missouri has established multiple initiatives to meet this goal with the help of $326,000 in grant funding since August 2022. The grant-funded projects initiated by the UCM Department of Public Safety are made possible by campus, local, state and federal sources, and include traffic safety education and equipment, impaired and hazardous driving enforcement, anti-terrorism equipment, protective equipment for police officers, and interoperable communications equipment.
