UCM OVATION Performance Series Presents the Adam Larson Jazz Quintet and SOLI Chamber Ensemble

The University of Central Missouri OVATION Performance Series presents two concerts for the fall 2023 season. OVATION is a curated selection of world-class dancers, musicians, and theatre performers who bring exceptional high-energy artistry to West-Central Missouri. The series opens at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28 with a performance by the Adam Larson Jazz Quintet in Hart Recital Hall. October brings the SOLI Chamber Ensemble to Warrensburg.

Campus Faculty Invited to Attend 2023 UCM Faculty Senate Teaching and Research Conference

The University of Central Missouri Faculty Senate Teaching and Research Conference is supported by the Faculty Senate and the Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. The theme for this year’s conference on Monday, Sept. 18 is “Strengthening Our Practice; Empowering Our Students.” This one-day event includes 20 breakout sessions, conducted by university faculty members; a discussion event with topic-based tables; and free box lunch and coffee stations all day.

Area First Responders Join UCM in Honoring Victims of 9/11

Joined by campus, city and county first responders, members of the University of Central Missouri community today honored 2,977 individuals who lost their lives during the worst terrorist attack on United States soil on Sept. 11, 2001. The Moment of Silence event took place on the west side of the university quadrangle amid rows of small U.S. flags placed on the lawn in memory of each person who perished in that incident and are not forgotten.

With much fanfare, including music provided by student marching band members, and a ribbon cutting with hundreds of guests, the University of Central Missouri on Sept. 8 celebrated the opening of its new Skyhaven Aviation Center at the Max. B. Swisher Skyhaven Airport.

First Endowed Chair Honors Professor Emeritus John Hess, Supports Mentorship in Biology and Chemistry

Recognizing the value of strong professor-student relationships, UCM alumnus Dr. Stephen Lacey and his wife, Ann Lacey, Coppell, Texas, are establishing the John Hess Endowed Chair in Biology or Chemistry for Student Mentorship with a $1 million gift to the University of Central Missouri Foundation. An agreement creating this first-ever endowed chair at UCM was signed formally during a recent ceremony at the W.C. Morris Science Building.

A step toward the future, Public Safety this summer purchased a hybrid 2023 Ford Maverick pickup with digital license plate reading capabilities that will be ready for deployment beginning Sept. 1.

Consistent with its role in providing educational programs and opportunities that promote history and culture, the University of Central Missouri College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) is co-sponsoring the first visit to Missouri by the Chair of the National Endowment for Humanities (NEH). The history-making keynote speech by NEH Chair Shelly C. Lowe will be presented at Maple Woods Community College, 2601 NE Barry Road, Kansas City, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6 as part of a tour giving her an opportunity to learn more about Missouri’s cultural assets and humanities offerings.

University of Central Missouri employee health and dental insurance renewal for 2024, renovation of the Terry Noland Football Offices, and renewal of KMOS-TV Public Broadcasting Systems (PB) dues were approved by the Board of Governors when it met in its Aug. 17 plenary session. These actions took place shortly after the board began its meeting with the swearing in of its new student board member and recognition of newly named emeriti faculty and staff members.
