A 2022 graduate of Lee’s Summit West High School, Smith will also receive his bachelor’s degree in design and drafting this May.

April 24, 2024A University of Central Missouri alumna who is the first woman to serve as president of Harris-Stowe State University and a UCM leader who is making a difference in the lives of active duty military students, veterans, and military dependents were recipients of annual awards presented by the Student Government Association on April 16. The awards ceremony took place at the Read and Relax area on the ground floor of the James C. Kirkpatrick Library. Harris-Stowe’s 21st President, Dr. Latonia Collins Smith, received the James C. Kirkpatrick Excellence in Governance Award and UCM’s Director of Military and Veteran Services, Courtney Swoboda, was presented the Walter Hicklin Excellence in Service Award.

The award recipients were announced on April 11 during the 84th annual Who’s Who recognition ceremony in the Elliott Student Union.
April 16, 2024An opportunity made possible by collaborative efforts that include the University of Central Missouri, 20 educators who teach grades 7-12 at the area surrounding Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas participated in a professional development seminar on April 4 which enabled them to uncover information to document the life stories of African American Civil War veterans who are interred at the cemetery.

The matinee on April 21 is a pay-what-you-can event.

The cooperative agreement is through the United States Department of Justice COPS Office for the development of this cutting-edge virtual training center. The subaward of approximately $288,000 will be administered by the Missouri Safety Center at UCM.
