Maple, Parman Claim Top Prize in National Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship Competition

Nellie Maple, a senior theatre performance major at the University of Central Missouri, and her acting partner, Daniel Parman, a graduate student in theatre, claimed top prize at the prestigious Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Irene Ryan National Acting Scholarship Auditions. The auditions were held at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., on April 15.

Wilson Named Meridith Harmon Sauer Distinguished Professor for Theatre and Dance at UCM

John Wilson, professor of theatre and chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance at the University of Central Missouri, has been named the Meridith Harmon Sauer Distinguished Professor for Theatre and Dance. Gersham Nelson, dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, recently announced the appointment.

Warrensburg resident Mathew Martinez on April 28 was sworn in to a post as student member of the University of Central Missouri Board of Governors to serve a term that expires Dec. 31, 2017. The Honorable Sue Dodson, associate circuit judge, Judicial Circuit 17, conducted the swearing in activities at the beginning of the board’s April plenary session.

UCM Ceremony Honors Veterans Who Gave Their Lives in Service to U.S.

The University of Central Missouri invites members of the local community and all others who are interested to a pre-Memorial Day ceremony in honor of individuals who gave their lives in service to the United States. The ceremony begins at noon Wednesday, May 25, on the east side lawn of the Alumni Memorial Chapel, and will be moved inside the chapel if inclement weather occurs.

Workshop Assists Military Members, Veterans, Reservists Transition to Civilian Life

From landing a better job, to getting the right education, to reconnecting with family and friends, these are just some of the goals many individuals may experience as they strive to make a smooth transition from military service to civilian life. The University of Central Missouri wants to help by offering a free Return With Purpose workshop for active duty military personnel, veterans, National Guard members, reservists, and military spouses, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 21, in Elliott Student Union 101.

Survey Indicates Passenger Rail a Critical Resource for UCM Students

Almost half have of the individuals who responded to a recent survey said they have taken Amtrak to/from school, more than two-thirds of those who have taken the train say passenger rail service is an important resource to attend school, and a strong majority of all respondents say they would ride more frequently if more frequent service was available. The survey was conducted at the University of Central Missouri by the Midwest Interstate Passenger Rail Commission.
