Dedication to Helping Students Succeed Results in National Recognition for Two UCM Members with Roles in Academic Advisement

After honoring a University of Central Missouri faculty member in 2021 with the Global National Academic Advisement Association’s (NACADA) Outstanding Advisor Award, NACADA this year is recognizing both a faculty and staff member with one of its prestigious honors. Matthew J. Garver, Ph.D., is receiving the Global NACADA Outstanding Advisor Award – Faculty Advising Role, and Jacqueline Faria is being honored with the Global NACADA Outstanding Advisor Award – Primary Advisor Role.

Fourth-Generation UCM Alumna in IMC Honored with Foster-Inglish Prize

As a member of a family that produced four generations of University of Central Missouri graduates, Ellen Blaize has a lot of appreciation for her alma mater, and sharing her passion for UCM through her work in the Office of Integrated Marketing and Communications is getting noticed. She was recently recognized as the recipient of the 2022 Carl B. Foster/John M. Inglish Prize for Outstanding Achievement and Service in Public Relations.

UCM Alumnus, Public Safety Sergeant Honored by Missouri Boys State

Sgt. Joe Jennings, a University of Central Missouri alumnus and member of Public Safety, was presented the Justin W. Stephan Public Service Award from the Executive Committee of the American Legion Missouri Boys State, Inc. on Saturday, June 18, in St. Charles, Missouri. Jennings, whose work and love for public service exemplifies the spirit the award’s namesake, was honored for his tireless public service to the state and community as well as to the Boys State program.

Before students graduate from the University of Central Missouri, one of the most cherished learning opportunities comes through internships that provide valuable hands-on experience and insight into their prospective careers. While these opportunities typically last one semester, Central Bank and the UCM Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies are taking this experience one step further through a new extended, paid internship that is two semesters long, and begins this fall.

Nic Webb, DNP, an associate professor and chair of the University of Central Missouri School of Nursing, has been named to a new cohort of higher education professionals across the nation who are participating in the 2022 Emerging Leaders Program (ELP). Webb, who travels to the nation’s capital June 15-17 to participate in the program, is one of 36 individuals who are part of this a premier leadership development initiative established by the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU).

Charissa Davis, assistant director of financial aid, was honored as the 2022 recipient of J.P. Mees Outstanding Professional Staff Award and Gwena Basinger, administrative assistant to the dean in the Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies, was presented the Outstanding Staff Award.
