Friday the 13th may have a reputation as an unlucky day, but one University of Central Missouri faculty member can put the superstition to rest after learning on that date he will be inducted into the Mid-America Athletic Trainers’ Association (MAATA) District 5 Hall of Fame. Brian Hughes, professor and director of UCM’s Athletic Training program in the Department of Nutrition, Kinesiology and Health, will be honored during the association’s annual meeting and symposium on March 17 in Lavista, Nebraska.
February 10, 2023Theatre and Dance students and faculty at the University of Central Missouri attended the first in-person Region V Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) since 2020 on Jan. 22-28 in Des Moines, Iowa. With 24 students and six faculty members in attendance, UCM was recognized for excellence in multiple areas of theatre.
February 07, 2023University of Central Missouri Theatre and Dance will present a weekend of repertory theatre with the collection of student-directed one-acts titled “Cry Now, Laugh Later.” Due to the length of the collection of these plays, the show has been split into two sets.

February 02, 2023Re-launching a program that was last celebrated on campus in 2018, the University of Central Missouri (UCM) Dance Club will sponsor “Dancing with the Professors 2023” at 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19 in Hendricks Hall. This student-run fundraiser has become a fan-favorite over the years and provides an evening of ballroom and popular dance styles performed by UCM students, faculty and staff.
February 02, 2023As part of its ongoing effort to bring guest speakers to campus to discuss significant social and economic issues related to justice, health, wellness, and community strength, the University of Central Missouri will present the program, “Rev. Dr. William Barber II, We are Called to Be a Movement.” This free public presentation sponsored by UCM’s Center for Multiculturalism and Inclusivity is open to all interested individuals and will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, in Hendricks Hall, located in the Administration Building. Doors open at 6 p.m.

The PTPA, established in 1991, provides public television professionals nationwide with opportunities to network with colleagues, to review new content offerings, and to remain current with relevant technology trends.
January 30, 2023While the loss of his 17-year-old sister was devastating for University of Central Missouri senior Alex Deke, the caring response of his fraternity brothers to honor her memory has not only touched the hearts of Deke and his family, but will make a difference in the lives of other young people who are struggling with this serious health issue.

January 25, 2023Jerry Hughes, who dedicated more than 40 years to laying the foundation for successes that included regional and national athletics championships, improved sports playing facilities, and the recruitment of thousands of outstanding student-athletes at the University of Central Missouri, passed away late Saturday, Jan. 21, after a brief illness.
