WARRENSBURG, MO – The University of Central Missouri announces a recent hire within
the Office of the General Counsel (OGC). On July 5, Holly Weiss joined the OGC as
Assistant General Counsel. In her new position, Weiss provides advice to individuals
acting on behalf of the university on a full array of legal issues involving higher
education, such as contracts, student privacy rights, free speech, open records, employment,
due process, and more.
“I am extremely pleased that Holly has returned to UCM to join our legal team,” said
UCM General Counsel Lindsay Chapman. “She is exceptionally qualified and brings a
contemplative, steady approach to her legal advising that will be of tremendous value
to the University.”
Weiss comes to UCM after serving as an associate attorney with a litigation firm in
Kansas City, and earlier as a Violence Prevention Specialist at UCM prior to attending
law school. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Fort Hays
State University, a Master of Science in Higher Education Student Affairs from Fort
Hays, and a Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri – Kansas City.
The UCM Office of General Counsel provides legal advice and representation for UCM
on institutional legal matters.
“We focus on preventive law, including client counseling, policy development, and
dispute resolution, and we also handle litigation whenever necessary,” Chapman said.
“Also under our administration umbrella are the Office of Accessibility Services and
the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.”
She noted that Nnamdi Nnedu, former Assistant General Counsel, recently left to assume
a position with a university in Texas.
