WARRENSBURG, MO – An opportunity is available for University of Central Missouri faculty
and staff members who would like to tour Whiteman Air Force Base Friday, March 25,
through a special program conducted between Whiteman leadership and the UCM Office
of Military and Veteran Services.
The free tour will be offered on a first-come, first serve basis to interested UCM
employees, with preference given to faculty and staff members who work directly with
service members in their campus role. The university will provide transportation to
and from the base. The bus leaves campus at the north end of the Elliott Student Union
on Union Street at 8:10 a.m., and returns back to UCM by approximately 12:30 p.m.
Advance registration is due no later than Feb. 25.
This will include a windshield tour of the base and a unit mission brief conducted
by Whiteman’s Office of Public Affairs. The visit offers opportunities to get a close-up
look at aircraft such as the B-2 bomber and the
A-10 while also interacting with base personnel. UCM members also will gain a better
understanding of the military environment in which many of the university’s military
students work and reside, in addition to learning about the demands of service members
pursuing their education.
According to UCM’s Office of Military and Veteran Services, participants must be mobile,
adaptable to fluctuating temperatures, able to ascend and descend stairs easily, as
well as have the ability to transfer from different vehicles to facilities without
difficulty. Individuals who plan to attend will be required to provide mandatory personal
information for base access upon registration, and will be required to provide two
forms of identification upon their admittance, including two forms of photo ID.
To obtain a registration form or to learn more, contact Delilah Nichols, coordinator,
Military and Veteran Services, by emailing nichols@ucmo.edu or by calling 660-543-8977.
