WARRENSBURG, MO – The University of Central Missouri will host the 77th annual session
of the American Legion Missouri Boys State June 18-25 on the Warrensburg campus.
Nearly 1,000 young men from across the state will participate in the week-long leadership
and training program.The participants must have completed their junior year in high
school and must have distinguished themselves as leaders in their high school and
community.
Keynote speakers for the week include former Missouri Governor Bob Holden, who will
open the week-long session with a keynote address at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 18.
Kansas City Mayor Sly James will speak at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 19, and Frank White,
Jackson County executive, former Major League baseball player and current first base
coach for the Kansas City T-Bones, will speak at 6:50 p.m. Monday, June 20.
Boys State citizens will have an opportunity to hear Republican candidates for Missouri
Governor speak at a GOP Gubernatorial Forum at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday, June 21. Missouri
Governor Jay Nixon will accept the 28th Annual George W. Lehr Memorial Speakers Chair
and deliver the keynote address at the 7 p.m. general assembly Thursday evening, June
23.
Lt. Gen Martin Steele, former Deputy Chief of Staff for Plans, Policies, and Operations
at U.S. Marine Corps and associate vice president for Veterans Research, executive
director of military partnerships, and co-chair of the Veterans Reintegration Committee
at the University of South Florida, will speak at 7 p.m. Friday, June 24.
All presentations are planned for Hendricks Hall in the UCM Administration Building.
