WARRENSBURG, MO – The University of Central Missouri Performing Arts Series and the
UCM Department of Music present the Alloy Orchestra in a unique concert and film experience
at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct.10 in Hart Recital Hall.
Alloy Orchestra is a three-man musical ensemble, writing and performing live accompaniment
to classic silent films. Working with an outrageous assemblage of peculiar objects,
they thrash and grind soulful music from unlikely sources.
Utilizing their famous “rack of junk” and electronic synthesizers, the group generates
beautiful music in a spectacular variety of styles. They can conjure up a French symphony
or a simple German bar band of the 1920s. The group can make the audience think it
is being attacked by tigers, contacted by radio signals from Mars or swept up in the
Russian Revolution.
Roger Ebert has called them “the best in the world at accompanying silent films.”
Alloy has helped revive some of the great masterpieces of the silent era while performing
at some of the most prestigious festivals and cultural centers in the United States
and abroad, including The San Francisco Silent Film Festival, The Telluride Film Festival,
The Louvre, Lincoln Center, The Academy of Motion Pictures and The National Gallery
of Art.
Hart Recital Hall will be transformed into an old movie house as Alloy plays live
to five famous short films from 1906 to 1965, including The Red Spectre, Artheme Swallows
His Clarinet, The Pet by Windsor McCay, Clay or the Origin of the Species by Ernest
Noyes and The Playhouse by Buster Keaton. Chosen from Alloy’s extensive repertoire,
these films are suitable for audiences of all ages.
Tickets for Alloy Orchestra are $10-12 for adults and $5-7 for UCM students and K-12.
