New UCM Necktie Design Makes Debut for Homecoming

By Mike Greife, October 14, 2016

WARRENSBURG, MO – University of Central Missouri fashion merchandising students have given a new look to the UCM necktie and scarf, a popular product designed and marketed by students in the UCM Fashion: Textiles in Clothing and Business program.

The original UCM man’s necktie and woman’s scarf, designed and marketed in conjunction with Homecoming 2012, features a geometric design created as a class project by Lauren Riddle, who was a senior at the time. Current UCM student Breann Hibberd has created a new paisley design, also featuring the red and black UCM colors on a neutral background.

Hibberd has more than 100 hours invested in the creation of the new patterned design.

The new ties, available in a man’s bowtie, necktie and extra-long necktie, are available online at ucmo.edu/buyfashion. The woman’s scarf will be available in the near future. The original UCM necktie and scarf design also remains available.

“Students have been preparing the new design for several months,” said Lynn Alkire, program coordinator. “The fashion program has aligned the curriculum to include each stage of design, from concept to consumer products, providing students with an opportunity to gain knowledge that prepares them for careers in the fashion business industry.”
