WARRENSBURG, MO - University of Central Missouri President Chuck Ambrose and Mrs.
Kris Ambrose will host the President’s Lawn Concert Monday, July 31, at Selmo Park
on South Holden Street.
UCM administrators will begin serving ice cream and cookies at 7 p.m., and the Warrensburg
Community Band, under the direction of Russell Coleman, will perform at 7:30 p.m.
The concert is free, and the public is invited to attend.
Free parking is available in university parking lots at Holden and Clark streets and
South and Holden streets. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved
in indoors to Hendricks Hall in the Administration Building. Seating will be provided.
This year’s concert will open with the national anthem, followed by the band’s rendition
of “Scootin’ on the Hard Rock: Three Short Scat-Jazzy Dances.” Guest conductor Pat
Setser will conduct “Bond,” a medley of songs from the James Bond films, including
the Bond movie theme, “Goldfinger,” “Nobody Does it Better,” “Skyfall,” and “Live
and Let Die.”
Bill Lane and Gary Moege will be the featured soloists for “Three Contrasts for Solo
Horn and Wind Ensemble.” Anthony Pursell, the new UCM director of bands, will conduct
the band in its presentation of “March from Second Suite in F for Military Band.”
Neill Seipp, Chuck Appleton and David Robinson will be the trumpet soloists as the
band plays “Bugler’s Holiday,” followed by the march “King Cotton.” Selections from
“Wicked” will include “No One Mourns the Wicked,” “Dancing Through Life,” “No Good
Deed,” “For Good,” and “Defying Gravity.”
Following the band’s performance of “Dizzy Fingers,” featuring clarinet soloists Jim
Gai, Denise Robinson and Erin Barrier, Jennifer Renfrow will be the featured vocalist
as the band performs “A Gershwin Tribute to Love,” featuring the Gershwin favorites,
“ ’S Wonderful,” “Love is Here to Stay,” ‘They Can’t Take That Away from Me,” and
“Embraceable You.”
Closing the program will be the band’s traditional performance of Sousa’s “Stars and
Stripes Forever.”
Marion Woods of KOKO-AM radio will serve as master of ceremonies for the event.
The Warrensburg Community Band was founded in 1985 to provide musicians with an opportunity
to perform for pleasure while rendering a service to the community. Membership is
open to individuals above high-school age and includes those from a wide variety of
occupations and many neighboring communities.
Financial support is provided by advertisers and private donors. The band traditionally
plays four concerts per summer season, including the annual fundraising concert.
