WARRENSBURG, MO – Brenda Moeder, director of housing facilities and operations at
the University of Central Missouri, received the William B. Sweet Distinguished Service
Award from the Upper Midwest Region-Association of College and University Housing
Officers at the group’s annual conference Nov. 8 at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.
The William B. Sweet Distinguished Service Award is UMR-ACUHO’s most prestigious award.
Recipients represent a standard of excellence through contributions and dedication
to the regional and international housing association and profession, leaving a positive
and lasting impact as a role model for colleagues and new professionals.
Moeder received a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education and a Master of
Science degree in college student personnel administration from Kansas State University
and a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2007.
She joined the UCM staff in 1996 as an area coordinator for UCM Housing and was named
assistant director in 1999 and associate director in 2001. She was named director
in 2010. In addition to her administrative duties in UCM Housing, she also teaches
courses in UCM’s college student personnel and academic enrichment programs.
Prior to joining the UCM staff, Moeder served as a residence hall director at the
University of Wisconsin-Stout and an assistant residence hall director and resident
assistant at Kansas State University.
Moeder served as president and vice president of the UCM Professional Staff Council
and has served on a variety of campus committees in the areas of housing, student
life and campus activities, as well as several search committees She received UCM’s
John Paul Mees Award for Outstanding Professional Staff in 2010.
Her involvement in professional organizations also includes serving as president,
vice president and executive committee secretary for the Upper Midwest Region-Association
of College and University Housing Officers, International. During her term as president
of the group, she oversaw the restructuring of the organizations to reflect the changing
needs of its members.
Moeder also is a recipient of the Hallenbeck Service Award from the Midwest Affiliate
of College and University Residence Halls in 2017 and the UMR-ACUHO Robert E. Mosier
Professional Enrichment Award in 2007.
