KMOS-TV Recognizes Young Writers

WARRENSBURG, MO – Young writers from across mid-Missouri recently participated in the 2018 KMOS Kids Writers Contest sponsored by  KMOS-TV, the University of Central Missouri’s public broadcasting station.

The 24th annual contest drew entries from throughout the KMOS-TV viewing area. Awards were presented to the winners at the ceremony held in the Elliott Student Union on the UCM campus.

A total of 14 awards were presented to students in grades one through three. The following is a list of the award winners by grade, along with their name, hometown, and title of their entry into the KMOS Kids Writers Contest:

First Grade:
1st Place – Camryn Emanuel, Columbia, “Denise’s Unicorn Adventure”
2nd Place – Kellen Cox, Concordia, “Treehouse Adventures”
3rd Place – Nick Crawford, California, “The Monkey and the Mango”
Honorable Mention – Heath Turner, Columbia, “The Gorilla that Wanted to Play Football”

Second Grade:
1st Place – William Fleury, Wardsville, “Don’t Take a Pickle to a Squirrel Fight”
2nd Place – Kai Kuroki, Columbia, “The Dragon Rider”
3rd Place – Anna Zeng, Columbia, “Getting a Pet”
Honorable Mention – Isaac Kuhlman, Columbia, “A Day In the life of a Barn Mouse”
Honorable Mention – Anastasia Jones, Henley, “Interview with Spinner the Spider”

Third Grade:
1st Place – Vicente Heredia, Columbia, “Sandy’s Victory”
2nd Place – Abigail Anye, Columbia, “Scotty Finds Love”
3rd Place - Kate Page, Columbia, “Will’s Big Adventure”
Honorable Mention – Georgia Sexton, Columbia, “Paige’s Journey to the Artic”
Honorable Mention – Lily Hu, Qing Meng, Columbia, “Lily’s Teddy Bear”

KMOS-TV, virtual channel 6 (UHF digital channel 15), is a Public Broadcasting Service-member station owned and operated by UCM that provides locally produced programs and a variety of PBS shows and educational programs. In addition to broadcast programming, KMOS-TV’s staff provide outreach to local schools and children, allowing the station to play an important role as part of the educational fabric of this state.
