WARRENSBURG, MO - The 2019-2020 academic year marks a a special time for the University
of Central Missouri's College of Education (COE) as it celebrates its centennial. The college's history dates back to the naming
of the university as Central Missouri State Teachers College in 1919 and the college
faculty, staff, students, and alumni are excited to invite campus members to special
events to help honor COE's history.
Special events are planned for Friday, Oct. 25, and members of the campus community are invited. They are as
follows:
- 4:30 p.m. - Legacy Suite Ribbon Cutting, 2nd Floor of Lovinger Building
- 5:30 p.m. - Mix and Mingle (with cash bar), Sandra Elliott Temple Ballroom, Elliott
Student Union
- 6:30 p.m. - Legacy Alumni Dinner and Celebration
The Legacy Alumni Dinner will celebrate the following honorees:
- Thomas Goddard, Bachelor of Science in Education - Physical Education, 1961; Master
of Science in Education - Physical Education, 1964
- Morris L. Collins, Bachelor of Science in Education - Art, 1969; Master of Science
in Education - Art, 1973
- Deborah Orr, Bachelor of Science in Education, Special Education, 1974; Master of
Science in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, 1989: Education Specialist in School
Administration, 2001; Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership, 2007
- Kim Spencer, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, Middle School Endorsement,
1993; Educational Specialist in Elementary Mathematics, 2019
- Eduardo Mendez, Alternative Pathways to Teaching Program, 2001; Master of Science
in Education in School Administration, 2006; Education Specialist, Educational Leadership
- Superintendency, 2018
- Gift Alfred Bwerakumanda Dube, Master of Science in Library Science, 2010
Campus members are all invited to celebrate this historic occasion and connect with
college alumni, friends, colleagues, and educators from across the state, nation,
and world. According to College Dean Robert Lee, the hard work and continued engagement
of UCM members ensures that students today become the education leaders of tomorrow,
continuing the legacy that began 100 years ago.
