WARRENSBURG, MO – When you think about Warrensburg, what images come to mind? That’s
exactly what sponsors of a new photo contest want participants to consider as they
seek submissions for “Snapshots of the Burg,” a joint effort between Warrensburg Main Street and students at the University of Central Missouri to gather fresh, new images for
use in promoting the community to others.
The online contest is currently underway, featuring six categories in which entries
of photos highlighting the city can be made, along with an opportunity to win prizes.
The categories include: Burg Dogs, Burg Bites, Burg Buildings, Trip Down Memory Lane,
College Life, as well as a category for youth age 18 and under. Within these different
photo groups, contestants will be sharing photos of themselves and their furry friends
at various community destinations, food shots from local eateries, interesting structures,
photos depicting their favorite Warrensburg memories, studying with friends, and a
wide variety of other local scenes. All photos must be taken in Warrensburg.
The contest opened Feb. 17 and closes at midnight March 1. Submissions will be voted
on via Facebook likes, and the top photo selected from each category will be announced
March 23. Top entries also will be displayed at the annual Warrensburg Main Street
Art Walk, Pine and Holden streets, April 3.
Students enrolled in the Advanced Events Management course taught by Keira Solon,
assistant professor in the School of Business Strategy, Harmon College of Business
and Professional Studies, developed the idea for the competition as part of a collaborative
learning experience with Warrensburg Main Street. Students in this course are working
with Main Street to make this event possible.
Individuals who want to learn more about the contest, including how to register and
submit photos, can visit warrensburgmainstreet.org.
