University of Central Missouri international students are invited to a Nov. 17 presentation
designed to help them navigate the Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and Optional
Practical Training (OPT) work programs. The presentation will be from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
at UCM’s Missouri Innovation Campus in Lee’s Summit with an online presentation also
available.
Through the Curricular Practical Training and Optional Practical Training programs,
international students attending a US higher-education institution are authorized
to work in the United States for a defined period of time. This authorization comes
from the US Citizen and Immigration Services and requires a comprehensive application
process.
At the Nov. 17 event, Kiran Chelluri, owner of Chelsoft Solutions Company, and Joey
McMullen, also from Chelsoft, will discuss the application process, how to find employers
willing to hire international students under the CPT and OPT programs and how to determine
if the company is reputable. Students will also receive tips on resume writing, networking
and interviewing.
Currently, the University of Central Missouri includes approximately 1,450 international
students in both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The university will be
recognizing these students and their contribution to UCM during International Education
Week, Nov. 15-19.
Due to COVID protocols, the in-person presentation is limited to 80 attendees with
additional students able to participate via Zoom. Registration for the event is required
by emailing UCM’s International Student Services Office at ISSS@ucmo.edu.
Students wanting more information about this event or the CPT and OPT processes may
also contact Becky Leevey, UCM International Student Advisor, at leevey@ucmo.edu.
