Student Support Services can help students to overcome challenges that might otherwise
prevent them from earning a university degree.
WARRENSBURG, MO – It is estimated that nearly 3,000 University of Central Missouri
students meet federal TRIO program eligibility guidelines. For those who do, UCM is
extending an invitation to attend the Student Support Services (SSS) Center Open House,
1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, in Elliott Student Union 128.
TRIO-eligible students include individuals who are the first in their family to attend
college, are Pell-eligible, historically underrepresented or are challenged by a disability.
The Open House will introduce them to staff members and other resources at the SSS
Center which are to help students with their academic success.
The SSS Center is housed within the Success Advising Center and is part of a team-like
approach to equitably and holistically build strong relationships and provide students
with tools they need to achieve their academic goals. Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays,
the center is a place where TRIO-eligible students can go to study, take advantage
of computers with free printing, and have access to certified peer educators who serve
as Success Coaches. These individuals are available to assist with general academic
questions, understanding assignment directions, help with basic study skills, and
more. The center also offers a Group Collaborative Study Zone with large electronic
whiteboard capability, and is in close proximity to Success Advisors who can help
students with many different services. These range from gaining access to free tutoring
to advice and assistance in postsecondary course selection to peer education and mentoring.
The center also works closely with the Learning Commons, Student Financial Aid, Career
and Life Design Center, and University Housing to assist students on many different
fronts.
The Open House is a great opportunity for students to tour the SSS Center and see
firsthand what it has to offer. To learn more, visit the SSS Center website, email
success@ucmo.edu or call 660-543-4721.
