Courtney Swoboda, director of the University of Central Missouri’s (UCM) Military
and Veteran Services office is the recipient of the 2024 HigherEdMilitary Spotlight Award, which honors those in higher education who excel
at finding innovative ways to support the military-affiliated population on campus.
A member of the HigherEdMilitary Advisory Council remarked, "Courtney embodies passion,
dedication, and innovation. Her commitment to supporting our military and veteran
students is unmatched. She has not only created an outstanding center that connects
with the campus community but has also elevated statewide efforts with the creation
of MOVES (Missouri Organization of Veteran Education Specialists)."
Another council member added, "Courtney's journey from certifying official to director
of the office showcases her hard work, passion, and expanding knowledge base, which
has paved the way for greater achievements. She exemplifies the pathways available
within this profession."
The nominees and recipient were selected by the HigherEdMilitary Advisory Council,
which assessed each candidate's experiences, accomplishments, and contributions based
on a weighted rubric. This rubric evaluated how effectively each individual has found
innovative ways to support and grow the military-affiliated population on their campus.
In recognition of her innovative work and dedication, the UCM Office of Military and
Veteran Services Scholarship Fund will receive a $500 donation.
HigherEdMilitary serves the military-connected community at colleges and universities.
