On display in the UCM Gallery of Art and Design, this photo by Christian Cutler,
gallery director, is part of the UCM Then and Now 150 Years exhibit. In this creative
work, Cutler merges an archival photo of nine female seniors from 1902 posed around
a planter that was gifted to the university with a 2021 fascimile of the Administration
Building.
WARRENSBURG, MO – The University of Central Missouri Gallery of Art and Design welcomes individuals to view its annual Faculty Exhibition on display through Sept.
18, and UCM Then and Now 150 Years through Oct. 30.
The Art and Design Faculty Exhibition provides an opportunity for the university’s art faculty members to showcase their
work and highlight concepts and ideas they plan to teach their students. It includes
artistic media such as painting, drawing, sculpture, and textiles, and also demonstrates
the faculty’ professional practices beyond their university duties.
Artworks from the following faculty members, including some emeriti art and design
faculty, are featured in the exhibit, located in the main gallery: Maryanna Adelman,
Mark Farris, Annie Helmericks-Louder, Natasha Hovey, Melanie Johnson, John Louder,
Christopher Lowrance, Mick Luehrman, John Malta, Marco Rosichelli, Haroon Sattar,
Justin Shaw, Andrea Simon, Susan Stevenson, Marissa Webb Tonkovic, Jennifer VanBuskirk,
Rahila Weed, Allison Kerek Williams and Matthew Zupnick.
UCM Then and Now 150 Years is displayed in Gallery 115. The exhibit, designed by UCM Gallery of Art and Design
Director Christian Cutler, celebrates UCM’s 150th anniversary through archived media.
Presented at the installation is a series of replicated photographs of the university
campus and student body using vintage photographs ranging from the early 1900s through
the year 2000. The historical scenes are merged with present-day facsimiles to create
a past and present effect of life on campus throughout the years.
Both exhibits are the first installations of the semester being offered at the UCM
Gallery of Art and Design. The gallery strives to showcase artwork, available to the
wider campus community, from individuals in the professional art world and students
studying art at the university. The gallery not only provides students the unique
opportunity to showcase the culmination of what they have learned from their experiences
on campus, it also gives students and community members the opportunity to view live
installations from esteemed artists they may not otherwise have had the opportunity
to experience. The gallery contributes to a sense of community, development and university
outreach.
The gallery will continue to host new installations throughout the rest of the fall
semester such as the Senior Exhibitions for Graphic Design, Interior Design and Illustration,
and Studio Art and Art Education majors. For more information about the Gallery of
Art and Design and the current exhibitions, visit the gallery website or contact Cutler
at cutler@ucmo.edu.
