UCM's Focus On Student Success Through Academic Advisement Highlighted By Regional NACADA Awards

Demonstrating the quality of leadership and academic advisement support the University of Central Missouri provides students, three university members were honored this spring at the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) Region IV/VII annual conference and awards program in New Orleans. As UCM continues to build on its reputation for outstanding academic advisement, the university swept three major award categories at the regional recognition program for the first time in the institution’s history.

NCMC+UCM Direct Connect Transfer Agreement Provides Seamless Pathway from Two-Year to Four-Year Degree, Initially for Seven Programs

An agreement that makes it possible for students at North Central Missouri College (NCMC) to pursue an associate degree while concurrently taking courses leading to a bachelor’s degree at the University of Central Missouri (UCM) was signed Feb. 26 at NCMC in Trenton. The NCMC+UCM Direct Connect Transfer Agreement builds upon a relationship between both institutions that not only helps facilitate credit transfer between institutions, but also includes benefits for students such as lowering the cost of a four-year degree, providing student use of services at each institution, and student record sharing between NCMC and UCM.

Missouri Innovation Campus Program's Academic Rigor and Industry Internships Give 2023 Graduate Michael Kraxberger Competitive Edge

Graduating high school with an associate degree while gaining technical experience are among the reasons University of Central Missouri 2023 graduate Michael Kraxberger selected UCM’s nationally recognized Missouri Innovation Campus program. Kraxberger recently moved to Raleigh, N.C. to work in the Cisco Sales Associate Program (CSAP). At age 20, he is the youngest in this elite program and among just 11 candidates accepted from a pool of applicants in the tens of thousands. He works as an associate systems engineer with this job title changing to associate solutions engineer in the near future.

UCM Announces Inaugural Performance of the Faculty-Student Chamber Ensemble, Feb. 27

A new kind of ensemble will debut at Hart Recital Hall on the University of Central Missouri campus at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27. Free and open to the public, this music performance brings together the talents of UCM Music faculty and students to perform a widely hailed 20th-century masterpiece, Steve Reich’s “Music for 18 Musicians.” The concert will be free and open to the public.

UCM Provost Bridgmon Named Recipient of Fulbright U.S. International Education Administrator Award

The University of Central Missouri today announced that Phil Bridgmon, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs, has received a Fulbright U.S. International Education Administrator award to India from the United States Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Bridgmon is among approximately 10 U.S. citizens who will take part in the India-Nehru IEA program in March 2024.

NY Times Bestselling Author, First Woman Inducted into National Sportscasters and Sports Writers Hall of Fame Speaks at UCM Feb. 21

Sally Jenkins, a four-time New York Times bestselling author who most recently wrote “The Right Call: What Sports Teach Us About Work and Life,” will present an author talk at the University of Central Missouri Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. Her presentation is free and open to the public and will take place in Nahm Auditorium in the W.C. Morris Science Building. She will be available for a book signing following her remarks.

The University of Central Missouri’s James C. Kirkpatrick Library and the UCM History Department are partnering to host "Boom! The Rise and Fall of Missouri's Black Business District." This traveling exhibit is produced by the Missouri State Museum and inspired by the Missouri State Parks-produced booklet “The Business: African-American Business People from Missouri’s Past” and will be on display Jan. 31 to Feb. 29 in the JCKL Read and Relax area.

Music Professor Mia Kim Performs at Carnegie Hall and at UCM

How do you get to world famous Carnegie Hall? One way is to follow University of Central Missouri Professor Mia Kim. The Piano Area Coordinator and Director of the Community Music Program at UCM will travel to New York City for a performance in the historic hall on Jan. 30. While area residents may not be able to make the trip to Carnegie Hall, they will have an opportunity to see her perform in person during a concert on Feb. 20 at UCM.
