Take a closer look at what you can study through the Department of Government, Law, and International Affairs:

  • Political Science: A degree in Political Science helps prepare you for a wide range of careers in public service at the national, state, and local levels, as well as careers in the private and nonprofit sectors, law, education, and more. You may specialize in one of two main Areas: American Politics, Public Law and Theory; or International and Regional Politics.
  • International Studies: Take classes in a variety of study areas, including political science, geography, sociology and anthropology. These programs are great options if you want to analyze and study a variety of perspectives on global issues, such as the environment and human rights.You may specialize in Global Society and Culture; Human Rights, Peace, and Justice; or International Development, Trade, and Diplomacy.

Find your Political Science and International Studies future at UCM

At the University of Central Missouri, you’ll find there’s more to your education than your books and coursework. When you pursue a degree through our Department of Government, Law, and International Affairs, you’ll also:

  • Learn from experts in the field: All of our instructors are experts in their fields, active researchers and tenured faculty members. Nearly all of our faculty members have also won college and university awards in teaching, so you know they’ll bring cutting-edge ideas and concepts to the classroom. 
  • Access exciting experiential learning opportunities: Apply what you learn in our state-of-the-art Civic Engagement Experiential Classroom, where UCM’s Mock Trial and Model United Nations teams hold practices. Find internships to earn real-world job experience, or you may even study abroad. You’ll find other opportunities to expand your knowledge and network with your classmates when you help organize events during Politics and Social Justice Week each spring.
  • Receive personalized guidance when you need it: At UCM, you’ll have a variety of resources available to you on your path to graduation — and a successful career. Meet with one of your instructors, our Department Chair and Program Coordinator for Political Science, the International Studies Program Coordinator or our Career and Life Design Center for additional support.
