Recognizing that some individuals prefer to identify themselves by a First Name other than their Legal Name, beginning in the Spring 2023 semester, the University of Central Missouri will enable individuals to identify a Preferred First Name in addition to their Legal Name. Individuals may indicate this preference via the UCM Personal Information section in MyCentral. Individuals will also have the ability to identify their pronouns. It's important to note, however, that both provision and use of identified preferred names and pronounces is optional.
A Preferred Name is a name an individual wishes to be known by in the University community that is different from a individual's Legal Name. Surnames can be changed within UCM databases only with a legal name change.
A Legal Name is the name that appears on your passport, driver’s license, birth certificate, or U.S. Social Security Card.
Examples include:
No. Use of a Preferred Name or Pronouns is optional.
Preferred Names may not be used for purposes of fraud or misrepresentation. The University reserves the right to ignore or remove an indicated Preferred Name for any lawful reason.
No. An approved Preferred Name does not change your Legal Name.
Individuals may define a Preferred Name and/or Pronouns in the UCM Personal Information section in MyCentral.
Changes to Preferred Name or Pronouns can be made at any time in the UCM Personal Information section in MyCentral.
