In today’s competitive job market, internships, especially in an international setting, can give a student the needed edge to shine beyond other candidates. Through his work at Central, Harry Poynter, professor emeritus of accounting, strived to give students opportunities to help them on the road to employment success.
A Certified Public Accountant, Mr. Poynter served the university for 21 years. He began working at Central in 1981 as an assistant professor in the Department of Accounting, where he devoted much of his time in recent years to teaching the Accounting Information Systems course and serving as internship director.
A testament to his desire to promote international study opportunities, he was instrumental in setting up internships for students as well as faculty exchanges in Maastricht, The Netherlands. As part of this effort, he joined a small delegation of Central affiliates who traveled there in 1998 to meet with the International Advisory Board.
Mr. Poynter earned his bachelor’s degree in business at the University of Colorado and his Mater of Business Administration degree at the University of Missouri- Columbia.
