UCM Board Authorizes Revision to Educational Development Program Policy, Golf Cart Lease, Unit Price Contracts

A lease agreement for golf carts, unit price contracts for a variety of on-call services, an agreement for procurement software services, and the establishment of new course fees that cover increased expenses associated with the delivery of specific academic programs were approved by the Board of Governors when it met on campus on Dec. 9. The governing board also approved a change in the Educational Development Program that benefits employee families seeking a UCM education.

UCM Student Earns National FFA Accolades for Agriscience Research Project Involving Beef Steak

While the University of Central Missouri encourages undergraduate research and collaboration with faculty members, one UCM student has already gained national recognition for a project that he began months before becoming a university freshman. Spencer Vossler, a third generation family member to attend the university, this fall finished in the top 10 for his entry in the Agriscience Fair that took place as part of the 95th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana.

ARPA Grant Creates Opportunity for UCM to Establish Five Certificate Programs That will Prepare More Individuals for Missouri's Ag Workforce

Today, Governor Mike Parson announced a $2 million grant award for the University of Central Missouri from the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development (MDHEWD) as part of a larger $20 million funding effort. Nearly two dozen postsecondary institutions were selected to provide high-demand career training for new and underrepresented populations and to address the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on agriculture and supply chains.

These opportunities not only provide a seamless transfer from a two-year to four-year degree program, but make it possible for military members to earn their degree at a reduced cost while taking advantage of other benefits available to service members who choose UCM.

UCM Celebrates 2022 Fall Commencement Dec. 9-10, Live Streaming Available

The Warrensburg community will welcome thousands of visitors Friday and Saturday, Dec. 9-10 as the University of Central Missouri hosts 2022 Fall Commencement exercises in the Multipurpose Building. The celebration will bring families, friends and students together for three ceremonies honoring more than 1,500 individuals who have met undergraduate and graduate degree requirements and are eligible to participate. Individuals who cannot attend but would like to view the ceremonies can do so virtually by clicking on the UCM Commencement Livestream page.

UCM Faculty Member Awarded Grant from U.S. Department of Labor to Pursue Workplace Infectious Disease Control

Miaozong Wu, Ph.D., CSP, ARM, program coordinator of the Master of Science in Occupational Safety Management, and an associate professor at the University of Central Missouri, was recently awarded an $85,000 grant from the United States Department of Labor (DOL). Made possible by the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, this grant funds one of 14 projects from different organizations nationwide that were selected by the DOL and funded through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Susan Harwood Training Grant program.

The University of Central Missouri’s commitment to meet the higher education needs of students across the globe are contributing to international enrollment increases that are the highest in the state among public institutions and have positioned UCM as a national leader in international enrollment. UCM’s status as a popular choice for students outside the country was confirmed in the Open Doors® 2022 Report on International Educational Exchange released in November by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and the Institute of International Education (IIE).

Giving Tuesday opens these festivities, followed by the Holiday Market, two evenings dedicated to the First Lady’s Holiday Concert Series, and a performance by the UCM Jazz Ensemble. All events are free and open to the public.
