The University of Central Missouri is partnering with the Full Employment Council (FEC) to help qualifying individuals obtain valuable training for in-demand jobs.
Beginning Feb. 26, the FEC will participate in pre-qualifying Open House events in
Lee’s Summit to help individuals determine eligibility and apply for scholarships
to fund non-semester based certification training as well as some college degree programs.
The pre-qualifying FEC events will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each
month at the Missouri Innovation Campus, 1101 NW Innovation Parkway, Lee’s Summit.
To help with planning for the event, attendees are asked to submit their name and
email address at this link.
Representatives from the FEC will be available during these sessions to explain the
FEC assistance program and to help with applications for scholarships. The debt-free
scholarships will fund career certificate and degree programs offered through the
University of Central Missouri (UCM).
Additionally, the events will include information related to UCM admissions, advisement,
financial aid and KC Degrees.
Examples of UCM certificate programs in the growing medical field include certified
nursing assistant, certified medical technician, medical billing and coding. In addition,
the university offers courses in areas such as information technology, office/business
administration and logistics/warehouse. These certificates, which can be completed
within a few months, provide the skills needed to begin a career in a high-growth,
secure field.
Classes are forming now in a variety of areas through the University of Central Missouri
including courses offered at the Missouri Innovation Campus, UCM’s Lee’s Summit campus,
as well as other Kansas City metropolitan locations. In addition, some courses are
offered online.
The Full Employment Council offers debt-free tuition assistance to students enrolled
in approved certificate-based training programs as well as students working toward
selected two- or four-year degrees at universities and colleges. The council’s goal
is to provide qualifying individuals with portable credentials that will help them
find and maintain employment. FEC funds are based on eligibility as well as availability.
The Full Employment Council serves residents of Cass, Clay, Platte and Jackson Counties.
Those attending the event are asked to bring in a document including their birth date
such as one of the following: driver’s license, state identification, birth certificate,
baptismal certificate, hospital record of birth or United States passport. It is recommended
that you bring an updated resume, preferably saved as a Microsoft Word document on
a CD or flash drive.
The open house schedule for 2019 includes the following events, all from 4 to 6:30
p.m. at the Missouri Innovation Campus: Feb. 26, March 26, April 30, May 28, June
25, July 30, Aug. 27, Sept. 24, Oct. 29 and Nov. 26.
