Scott Boyce of UCM and Theresa Leaming discuss university programs during the Feb.
26 Professional Training and Education Open House at the University of Central Missouri-Lee's
Summit.
Individuals interesting in launching new high-demand careers learned about training
and scholarship opportunities at a professional training and education open house
hosted on Feb. 26 by the University of Central Missouri in cooperation with the Full Employment Council (FEC).
UCM, partnering with the FEC, recently launched the monthly professional training
and education open houses at the Missouri Innovation Campus, the university’s Lee’s
Summit location. Events will be held from 4 to 6:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of each
month at the facility, 1101 NW Innovation Parkway with the next open house scheduled
for March 26. To RSVP for the March event or any future events, fill out the online registration form.
The monthly events are open to adults from counties served by the FEC including Jackson,
Cass, Clay, Platte and Ray. Representatives from the FEC are at each event to assist
with applications for debt-free training. The events also include information about
UCM admissions, advisement, financial aid and KC Degrees.
The Full Employment Council offers debt-free tuition assistance to students enrolled
in approved certificate-based training programs as well as students working toward
selected two- or four-year degrees at universities and colleges. The FEC’s goal is
to provide qualifying individuals with portable credentials that will help them find
and maintain employment. FEC funds are based on eligibility as well as availability.
The Full Employment Council serves residents of Cass, Clay, Platte and Jackson Counties.
Examples of UCM certificate programs in the growing medical field include certified
nursing assistant, certified medical technician, medical billing and coding. In addition,
the university offers courses in areas such as information technology, office/business
administration and logistics/warehouse. These certificates, which can be completed
within a few months, provide the skills needed to begin a career in a high-growth,
secure field.
Classes are forming now in a variety of areas through the University of Central Missouri
including courses offered at the Missouri Innovation Campus, UCM’s Lee’s Summit campus,
as well a other Kansas City metropolitan locations. In addition, some courses are
offered online.
Anyone planning to attend a future open house is asked to bring a document including
birth date such as one of the following: driver’s license, state identification, birth
certificate, baptismal certificate, hospital record of birth or United States passport.
It is recommended that you bring an updated resume, preferably saved as a Microsoft
Word document on a CD or flash drive.
