UCM Student Lu Li Receives Safety Professional of the Year Award

WARRENSBURG, MO – Lu Li, a graduate student in the Occupational Safety Management (OSM) program at the University of Central Missouri, has recently been named as the 2020 recipient of the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Greater Chicago Chapter Safety Professional of the Year Award.

 

The American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) is an international safety professional organization that has been actively helping safety professionals prevent workplace injuries and disasters for over 100 years. The ASSP membership spans 80 countries around the world and has led the way for industry education, standards and innovation for occupational safety and health. The ASSP Greater Chicago Chapter presents the Safety Professional of the Year award to one member a year who has successfully demonstrated prestige and professionalism in the occupational safety and health field.

 

Li has over a decade of industry experience and is currently working at CRRC Sifang America Inc. in Chicago as the facility’s Equipment and Tooling Engineering Manager. CRRC Sifang America manufactures electrified railcars for the city of Chicago. As part of his job, Li oversees rolling stock manufacturing, engineering implementation, equipment application, environment, occupational safety and health. Utilizing the cutting-edge knowledge and skills he learns at the Occupational Safety Management program at UCM, Li innovates safer manufacturing techniques and production processes to improve the safety and health quality of workers, one patent application has recently been filed for one such innovation. Alongside his faculty advisor at the OSM program, Li is working hard and passionately on several projects for publication and field applications.

 

Carmen Julia Castellon, the president of the ASSP Greater Chicago Chapter, commented on the chapter’s decision to recognize Li as the recipient of this year’s award.

 

“The qualities that characterize safety professionals are their relentless passion and dedication to the audiences they serve so team members return from work to their loved ones the same way they began their day,” Castellon said. “Lu Li's accomplishments, passion and pursuit to mentor safety are among the qualities that we really look forward to in the Safety Professional of the Year recognition. We are very excited to recognize Lu Li and to see him continue to do great things for our profession.”
