The Learning Commons is using a new app called Penji. Students can log-in and search for help by course.
Penji is a scheduling application that was designed specifically for campus learning centers. It is meant to more easily connect students to peer support on campus.
Great question! You can download Penji on your phone through your app store (iOS, Android). It is also available as a website on desktop or mobile devices.
While an appointment will secure you a spot with a specific tutor and/or at a specific time, you can always choose the “Drop-In Tutoring” option. You will enter a first-come, first-served queue. You’ll be able to see available tutors and tell whether there is anybody ahead of you in the line.
If you schedule an appointment and you suddenly become unable to attend, you can use the app to cancel your appointment before it takes place, no strings attached. We do ask that you do this for two reasons: 1) It will open that time back up for someone else who needs help to schedule an appointment, and 2) Repeated appointment no-shows are grounds for a temporary suspension from the Learning Commons.
Nope! We are using this tool to schedule all of our academic support. If you drop into the Learning Commons as in the past, we’ll log you in using Penji. But you can use the tool to sign up for tutoring help whenever you think of it. Just getting out of a difficult class session and know you’re going to need help? Open the app and see what’s available right away!
If you do choose to receive online help, you will be provided a Zoom link directly through Penji. No need to worry about finding the link in your email; just open your Penji account and join the meeting when it’s time!
Yes! When your appointment is finished, you will receive a quick survey asking how your experience was, sort of like when you get to rate your Uber driver at the end of a ride. The feedback goes to Learning Commons admin and is used to help us improve our customer experience.
