What you will study
Supplement the knowledge you’re building in your major area of study with a minor
in Finance at the University of Central Missouri. You’ll gain a basic understanding
of the principles of finance, as well as improve your skills in financial analysis,
security analysis, corporate finance and financial institutions.

Unique learning opportunities in finance
The University of Central Missouri offers many ways for you to be an active learner
as part of your minor in Finance, including:
- Internships: Learn on-the-job skills in an internship. UCM Finance students have found opportunities
at organizations such as Central Bank of Warrensburg, State Street Corporation and
American Family Insurance.
- Student Managed Investment Fund (SMIF): Get practical experience in security analysis and portfolio management with the Student Managed Investment Fund. Manage real funds with fellow Finance students and build reports to explain why
you’ve made your decisions. As part of this experience, you’ll have access to an on-campus
trading room where you can become skilled in using Bloomberg workstations.
- Integrative Business Experience (IBE): Throughout a semester, you’ll develop a business idea, learn how to apply for funding
to launch it and run it in a way that’s profitable. At the end of the semester, you’ll
use the money earned in your IBE to fund a community service project for a local nonprofit organization.
- Student life: Join other Finance students to network, meet with faculty members, listen to speakers
and attend social events in the Student Finance Association.
