Curricular Practical Training (CPT)

Application Requirements for CPT I-20:

* Travel and CPT - Students may continue to travel internationally with a CPT I-20 endorsed for travel. CPT participation is considered to be part of the academic program and CBP will recognize the curricular nature of the internship as students return from the holiday break.

Student submission - CPT I-20 request must be submitted by the student.

** Once the CPT application has been submitted, a second application may not be submitted to change employers.

Academic department approval - Once the CPT request is submitted, it will first go to the academic department.

ISS Approval and I-20 issuance - Once the department approves, it will automatically be sent to International Student Services for a CPT I-20 to be issued.

At the time of submission, the complete CPT Agreement Form and Employment Offer Letter must be submitted by the student as uploads within the application.

Students may begin work only after the following two events:

    1. International Student Services issuance of the CPT I-20
    2. CPT start date listed on the CPT I-20 has arrived
